Super Family Sunday

Man this weekend was crazy!  My husband was out of town for Boy Scout Winter Camp he was in charge of.  On the way up his truck broke down on the mountain.  His amazing dad came and got it and took it 250 miles away to fix it or sell it or burn it :)  We haven’t quite figured out what to do with it….it’s a costly fix (transmission). We need a truck, but we also need a more economical vehicle to save on gas, we can’t have both right now with only working part time and going to school.  Ugh.  Oh well life goes on when you are stuck with one car….right? :/

Sunday was a great day though.  I am now teaching YW’s  and the lesson went really well.  I am excited to show you what I am doing to help them with the new Come Follow Me curriculum.  Post coming soon,  I promise, beginning of next week!

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday, you could tell by how many people were at Wal-Mart Saturday night and the line to try all the wings at Costco also gave it away!  Oh and that every person and their dogs status update on Facebook was about who would win, and what food they made!  My kids asked what it was, because we really aren’t NFL Football fans so we haven’t ever really watched the Super Bowl.  We went to a party once, but just sat and ate in the kitchen and watched some commercials!  That was good enough for me.  My husband loves sports, but really only to play, he says watching them is too boring!  Besides, it’s on Sunday, and we never watch football on Sunday so why would we start!

When we got home from church, I told the kids I thought it would be fun to start our own family tradition to do on Super Bowl Sunday.  They came up with this name….
Here is what they came up with to do…
  1. Games
  2. Make Foods
  3. Church Movie and Popcorn (we didn’t do popcorn because we were so full after dinner)
  4. Make Lego Creations
  5. Read Old Journals
  6. Go to bed with a Night time story
The kids had fun.  It’s not like we have boring Sunday evenings, but it was scheduled and they liked it because we focused on them.  My favorite was making the food.  LaLa made the celery sticks with Peanut Butter and apples, I made the chips and avocado dip, Cowboy and daddy made the meatballs and fries and fry sauce!  Jack Jack and I made a yummy cake for dessert!  I got first place in the Lego competition along with my husband.  My son was trying to be nice about the judging because mine was really lame! We watched “The Touch of the Masters Hands” and had a great discussion about it, and then my husband and I pulled out our huge growing up boxes and showed the kids some of our treasures and journals from when we were little.  Their favorite is always seeing Nate’s Micro Machines that he never lets them touch!
It was really fun, and the kids were happy by the end of the night!

They did ask the score of the game though so we looked it up.  Go Ravens….who ever they are :)

That is an awesome idea and sounds like so much fun. :) I basically did the same thing when I went to my son's home for the Super Bowl. I played with my grandson and watched the commercials and ate great food. :) Good for you guys! :D
